In the Office
I’ve come across some inspirations on dressing professionally for the office over the summer from an article in ELLE magazine. It’s important to embark on an adventure for individuality and to be able to express ourselves through our clothing choices, but to also stick by the dress code for a workplace. I think that a few simple and neutral items are essential to a wardrobe so that you can add some stable items that pop to draw some individualistic attention to yourself. You should feel comfortable in your environment - what better way to assert yourself and feel comfortable with this decision than the workplace?

I have a real dilemma that I am going to try to overcome today.
What do you wear in the height of summer heat, in New York City, and not sweat through your clothes by the time you show up to work? I don’t know. Today’s activities are going to try and remedy this internal dilemma I’m having.
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
The essentials include -
1). A great pair of comfortable, supportive sandals to walk around in for months on end. They’ll need to be pretty durable as well if you’re summer plans include a job or an internship that lasts a while. I purchased the “Malta Sandal” from J.crew that are surprisingly comfortable and support me well. I’m excited to wear them in and have them be on my feet for two months straight.
2). A lightweight, light color, breathable summer dress. This is something, that if it’s plane enough, you can wear over and over again and accessorize it differently every time. I got a great white, light weight, kind of gauzy material dress with a drop waist and scoop neck. I love it, and can’t wait to wear it, especially with my new sandals.
What I Wish My Boyfriend Wore…
Okay, so IF I had a boyfriend this is what I would want him to wear. My little sister recently confided in me about what to get her boyfriend of 1 year for his birthday. Let me tell you now, this girl is one of the more fashionable girls I know, so we were having some trouble finding something for her, as she calls him, “rustic” boyfriend that would satisfy her fashion needs. As we were doing research, we started talking about how hard it is to shop for a boy; you want to get them something fashionable and that you secretly want, but something that he’ll also want to wear at the same time. Here’s where we reached a fine line that we dare not cross. We were dreaming of a world where we could pick out what boys would wear and what we would do to them, giggling over the idea that this would ever come true In a nutshell, my sister inspired this little tidbit - what I would want my boyfriend to wear. I’ve included a couple of things that I love, some simple moves and some bold for the men out there. But trust me when I say, fashionable men are always intriguing. At least you’d catch my eye…
1) Jack Spade Cape Cod Printed Leather Bi-Fold Wallet : I think this is what my little sister settled on getting her long distance boyfriend for his birthday. I love this wallet. I think it’s fun for our age, but classy and distinguished enough too as far as nice wallets go. I think that this intersects the two wishes perfectly - Wade will want to use it and Madison decided it was fashionable enough for her too. This wallet can be found at Bloomingdales.
2) J.Crew Ad : This look features a slim cashmere V-neck sweater, lightweight chambray shirt, “Stanton” shorts, a leather weekender bag, Ray-Ban “Caravan” sunglasses, and a Timex watch. I love this look because it brings a fun but put together look that could work on almost any boy. I love the simpleness of the sweater, shirt, and short pairing, but if you look online, J.Crew offers many colors for these pieces so it gives us room to mix and match our preferences of color - could be fun?
3) Michael Bastian : This pictures comes from his Spring 2012 collection. I really love this 1950s look on a guy. Cuffed jeans, slicked hair, a sporty jacket to throw on over all of this, a crisp white shirt and socks - hello, Grease? I think so. I’ve always been a fan of this look I think it’s very flattering and intriguing for the ladies. The red “pop” that the jacket gives is instantly noticed as well.
4) Mike Elmquist : I found this boy while rummaging through the internet to find a perfect example for my kind of “hipster” boy; such an inviting and relaxing look that some boys pull off almost too perfectly. Mike wears a Patrick Ervell jacket, Trash Club shirt, and Levi’s jeans.
5) Tommy Dorfman : Lastly, I wanted to feature my good friend and long time fashion inspiration, Tommy Dorfman. Tommy has been in my life for 6 years now and has always had something different to bring to the table and continuously sparks my interest in his everyday fashion choices. This look is timeless and beautiful - date me, Tommy?
